Taking care of the server room

Dave Smith started working for the company at the beginning of January, and only three months later he already knew how to maintain the server room. It was only the technical part he was responsible for, though. The IT stuff was a specialists" duty, and he was not supposed to interfere. Every morning, he entered the room and looked at the thermometer on the wall. If the room was too hot, he was supposed to turn on the air conditioning and the internal cooling system. If the equipment had got too warm, it might have stopped working altogether, so he had to make sure the low temperature was kept. He also checked the closed cabinets. They were sound-proof, so he could barely hear what was going on inside. He was not supposed to open the cabinets. He just had to check the cables and the plugs, and then vacuum the place and dust the rack shelves. It was quite a big server room, actually more like a small data centre, and it was constantly being expanded by the experts. He didn"t talk about this with them. They were all IT specialists, and he was just an office worker whose duties also included taking care of the room. But he was happy with the job. At least he could learn something new, unlike other office workers.
